Government and Faculty Policies Relating to Placements
All Students should refer to the Faculty of Medicine site for
Government Policies affecting all Undergraduate Medicine Students prior to attending rural placements.
Criminal Record Clearance
The New South Wales Department of Health has a policy that all students must undergo a criminal record clearance prior to placement within the NSW Health System. It is the student's responsibility to know their criminal record clearance status. For further information see:
http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/audit/students/index.html
Students are required to take proof of their clearance (the NSW Department of Health Clearance for Clinical Placements Card you recieved in first year) when attending all rural placements.
For replacement cards, please complete the Request for Clearance document on the
NSW Health website.
For new/expired clearances, complete a new consent form at the
Office of the Dean. Please note, it can take up to six weeks to receive a criminal record clearance.
Vaccination History
Students will be required to provide a documented screening and vaccination history which must be made available to the employer (usually the head of infection control at the hospital) prior to the commencement of a rural placement. Please refer to
NSW Health Circular 2007_06 (PDF) for further information
