Rationale
There is little detailed information about the Australian cannabis market, yet widespread speculation about several of its aspects, including the domination of highly potent cannabis and contamination of local cannabis product by substances such as pesticides and moulds. One major concern associated with cannabis potency is that more potent cannabis is responsible for a perceived increased in mental health problems, particularly among young people. However, to date, there is little data on cannabis potency with which to support these claims. This pilot study aimed to gain a better understanding of cannabis potency and the presence of contaminants in Australian cannabis.
