Centre for Health Equity Training Research and Evaluation
The Centre for Health Equity Training Research and Evaluation (CHETRE) was established in 1998 in collaboration with the Division of Population Health, Sydney South West Area Health Service, through a Research and Development Infrastructure Grant from NSW Health.
CHETRE’s mission is to provide leadership and focus in training, research and evaluation in the area of health equity, with a particular emphasis on the development and evaluation of interventions to reduce health inequities.
CHETRE’s work focuses on the description and measurement of health inequalities and health equity, development and evaluation of policies, programs and other actions that aim to achieve health equity, and developing the capacity of the health system to more effectively address health equity through policy and program development. Our work includes projects in the areas of community and primary health care service development, disadvantaged communities and populations, early childhood, Aboriginal health, unemployment, and Health Impact Assessment and Healthy Public policy. CHETRE works closely with the NSW Department of Health, Area Health Services and local government and non-government organizations.
In 2005 CHETRE became part of the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity. CHETRE is based at Liverpool Hospital and at Randwick campus.
