Rationale
As part of the celebrations for the 30th year of the settlement of the Vietnamese-speaking community in Australia since 1975, the VCA/NSW conducted a community consultation project in May 2005. The purpose of the community consultation project was to identify the current needs, issues of concern and other relevant information to assist the VCA/NSW and other service providers in the design, planning and delivery of services for the Vietnamese speaking community. A consortium of organisations was formed to undertake the planning and implementation of the project
Aims
1. To identify the nature and the extent of issues/difficulties faced by the Vietnamese elderly, men, women and young people in relation to parenting, family relationships, communication, mental and physical health, gambling and other issues relevant to them.
2. To provide an opportunity to the participants to express their views and make suggestions to improve the provisions of services relevant to their needs.
3. To identify factors which may affect the participants’ access to, and effective use of, services provided.
4. To identify the most effective medium through which the provisions of information, available services and educational material can be communicated to the target groups.
5. To raise awareness of the identified needs and issues.
6. To provide relevant information to service providers to assist their design, planning and delivery of community welfare, education and heath care services.
