Rationale
The CPHCE receives funding under the Research Capacity Building Initiative of the2006-2009 Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation & Development Strategy (PHC RED) in order to build research capacity in primary health care.
Aims
The RCBP seeks to build a sustainable primary health care research workforce which produces quality priority research by engaging with multiple stakeholders at various levels of research experience, skill and background. While our focus, in relation to direct service delivery, is on career researchers, it is essential to establish and maintain strong links with non-career researchers who play a pivotal role in ensuring research is relevant and responsive to community and policy needs.
Design and Method
RCBI funding within the UNSW Program is used to support and build the necessary infrastructure to ensure the sustainability of research capacity building efforts in primary health care across four distinct regions - South Western Sydney, Southern and South Eastern Sydney, llawarra and Shoalhaven, Greater Murray.
We provide a comprehensive range of services to members of our Research Network and other stakeholders, including:
- Advice and support around all aspects of research (design, implementation, analysis and write up)
- Mentoring for early-mid career researchers
- Informal and formal training for primary health care professionals wishing to learn more about research methodology and processes
- Dissemination of information regarding key developments and opportunities in primary health care research (funding, conferences, policy initiatives, literature etc)
- Seminars and other meetings on local primary health care research
- An evidence based practice journal club for general practitioners and GP registrars
- Development of a range of resources on research methods and processes
