General Practice Unit
The GP Unit is an integral part of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) School of Public Health and Community Medicine (SPHCM) http://www.sphcm.med.unsw.edu.au/ and Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity (CPHCE) http://www.cphce.unsw.edu.au/, and the Division of Complex Care and General Practice in SW Sydney Local Health Network http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/swslhn/index.asp . We work closely with UNSW Asia Pacific ubiquitous Health Research Centre (APuHC) http://www.asb.unsw.edu.au/research/asia-pacificubiquitoushealthcareresearchcentre/aboutus/Pages/default.aspx and Australian Institute for Health Innovations (AIHI) Centre for Health Informatics (CHI) http://www.chi.unsw.edu.au/ . Our research focuses on systematic and integrated care of high prevalence chronic illness, preventive interventions for disease risk factors, health systems and informatics, data/information quality, and research capacity building. We host the Primary Health Research Network (PHReNet) http://www.cphce.unsw.edu.au/cphceweb.nsf/page/PHReNet and electronic Practice Based Research Network (ePBRN) http://www.cphce.unsw.edu.au/CPHCEWeb.nsf/page/UNSW+EPBRN .
The GPU hosts the UNSW Primary Health Care Research Network or PHReNet, which builds research capacity with primary health care professionals in Sydney (south, east and south west) along with its regional partners in the Riverina and Illawarra/Shoalhaven. The GP Unit is located at Fairfield Hospital in Prariewood, South West Sydney.
